What is IPL used for?

Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) laser treatments are most commonly used for:
• Lightening and removing sun spots, age spots and brown blotches on the face, neck, chest, hands and other areas of the body.
• Lightening and reducing redness, rosacea, dilated blood vessels and “broken” blood vessels on the face, neck and chest.
• It also has a lesser effect of improving skin texture through collagen stimulation and improves pore size minimally by temporarily reducing oiliness.

How does IPL work?

Intense Pulsed Light systems release precisely controlled strong pulses of filtered light that are absorbed by melanin, the pigment in hair. This heats up the hair and destroys the cells responsible for hair growth, to achieve long term hair reduction.

Intense Pulsed Light treats skin imperfections including age spots, sunspots, and broken capillaries on the face, chest and hands. Light wavelengths penetrate the skin to remove unwanted capillaries and reduce pigmentation, evening-out skin tone and stimulating collagen production in the skin’s deeper layer.

IPL, when done properly, almost always consists of a series of 3-5 treatments, usually one every 2-4 weeks. The benefits of IPL treatments are achieved with little discomfort and minimal risk.

How is the IPL treatment carried out?

Following a consultation with professional laser technician, and a test spot to ensure your compatibility with the treatment.

During the IPL treatment, your medical professional will put special glasses or eyepads over your eyes to protect them. A cool gel is then placed on the skin being treated. The smooth glass surface of the handpiece is gently applied to your skin and pulses of light flash. You may feel a very slight sting, like the snapping of a small rubber band.

What is microdermabrasion?

Microdermabrasion is a progressive, safe, non-invasive procedure that propels natural mineral (Corundum) crystals onto the surface of the skin for gentle epidermal abrasion that reveals newer, healthier and younger looking skin.

What are Corundum Crystals?

It is a natural mineral that is used in the food industry. To name a few: tooth whiteners, tooth paste, canned foods like processed cheese, bottled water and lipsticks.

How does microdermabrasion work?

Microdermabrasion works in two ways:

Correction – The speed of the crystal flow causes an abrasive action that gently removes 30% to 50% of the surface layers of the epidermis formed by dead cells.

Stimulation – The vacuum action helps to stimulate microcirculation, increasing the blood supply that provides nutrients needed for regeneration. It also stimulates formation of new collagen and elastin to improve skin texture and elasticity.

Is microdermabrasion painful?

Microdermabrasion is performed with very little discomfort. At the most, sensitive skin might experience a slight sensation resembling light sunburn. After treatment, the skin has a pink glow, and you can resume your normal activities almost immediately. The procedure can be done during lunch hour

How many microdermabrasion treatments will I need?

Results can be seen in both the texture and appearance of the skin after just one treatment. An initial series of treatments, combined with maintenance will result in better skin quality.

What is a Chemical Peel?
